Suspect Device is a collaboration Double IPA brewed with Farmageddon from Northern Ireland. Their aim of the beer is to showcase the experimental hops that the brewers at Farmageddon brought over with them. Not much is known about the hops, but it reportedly uses experimental WOLF hops which give a piney dankness, balanced with floral notes from the codenamed FARMAGEDDON hops.
Orange in colour, Suspect Device is almost muddy in appearance. This is no bad thing and almost hints at the aroma within, primarily that of a damp forest floor. The aroma is lifted slightly with citrus notes of orange marmalade and tropical mango.
This big Double IPA needs time to warm up in the mouth for the flavours to fully appear. It's sweet and fruity at first with citrus rolling in with dried tropical fruits adding richness to it. The experimental hops give evidence of pine and floral hints towards the end.
For an 8.3% Double IPA it slips down easily without much bitterness. The initial earthy dampness seems to linger on the tongue.
Most Weird Beard beers are vegan with the exception of some with lactose and honey (clearly indicated on the labels and their website).
This beer is suitable for vegans at the time of writing (July 2016).
