Cloudwater have created a unque take on the wheat beer with a Hopfen Weisse brewed with bergamot lemons. This batch was made with 150kg of bergamot lemon zest added at the end of fermentation, followed by the juice from the lemons towards the end of conditioning.
Bergamot Hopfen Weisse is golden yellow with an offf-white, frothy head. The head lasts for the duration with plenty of bubbles breaking through from the carbonation.
The nose is hugely aromatic and floral with stacks of zesty lemon. It's full-bodied in the mouth with a strong wheat flavour followed by juicy and tangy lemon. There's hints of some more citrus fruits, possibly grapefruit and tangerine, towards the end.
Cloudwater are widely distributed in specialist beer shops throughout the country. Fresh beer, delivered direct from the brewery, can be ordered online via EeBria.
Cloudwater proudly state on their Twitter account that "our beer is always vegan" and that "anything we brew at our brewery will always be vegan, regardless of the preferences of anyone else".
Cloudwater do not filter their beer and use Murphy’s Auxiliary Fining finings (which are pretty light touch and vegan), along with temperature and time to improve clarity.
This beer is suitable for vegans at the time of writing (July 2016).
