American Pale Ale (APA) has many similarities with their English counterpart the Pale Ale. They tend to be slightly stronger with an average aby of around 5%. What sets them apart is their use of large quantities of American hops, the most popular of which being Cascade. Expect big aromas of citrus and caramel with a moderate level of bitterness. The defining beer of this style is the beautifully balanced Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.
These beers pair well with many different types of beer due to their citrus, caramel and slightly spicy characteristics. Mexican food such as tacos, quesadillas, fajitas will be a great match for an American Pale Ale as well as Thai or Vietnamese dishes. A gently spiced falafel burger with all the extras will be a perfect pairing too.
